What's your favorite moment at a wedding to photograph? The first look and couple portraits are my favorite part of the day! Seeing the anticipation followed by the love and tears that flow is so sweet to be a part of. The couple’s nervousness from the day melts away at this point too and you can just see the comfort, happiness and joy of just being together. And they really love getting their photos taken then too, it’s so much fun!
What do you love most about shooting outdoor/rustic events? I personally love being in nature. Just being outdoors and in a rustic environment makes people more relaxed and comfortable and able to be themselves, and being able to create photographic art for people combining amazing light reflected in nature is truly one of my favorite things. One nice benefit of photographing weddings and portraits is that people strive to be in beautiful environments for their day, so we get to see and photograph some really amazing locations!
How did you get into photography? I’ve loved it ever since I was a kid! I still remember my first Kodak film camera (the kind with a flash cube) when I was little and I loved cutting nature photos out of magazines and sticking them to my bedroom walls. I was in the photo club in middle school (we rolled film in a closet under a stairway), then studied photography in college (where we rolled film in a more respectable closet). I worked as a graphic designer for many years while nurturing my photography hobby until we had our first baby, then I made a career switch and opened my own wedding and portrait photography studio.
What makes you smile? My two kids (when they are being cooperative!) and hubby make me smile every day!
Besides photography, what do you enjoy? World travel, camping, hiking, reading, dancing, and cookies, in no particular order. :)
Any tips for couples when deciding on a photographer? I actually wrote a blog article on this exact topic as I have a lot of advice to give. Read more about it here: Carina Photographics
How would you describe your style? Fine art, editorial (meaning photos look like they came from a magazine), storytelling (meaning details and progression of the day are captured so images work particularly well in an album).
How long have you been a photographer? Twenty years now (started out with fine art, landscape, nature and travel photography), and then I opened my wedding and portrait photography business in 2011.
