Name: Jeannine Pohl
Business Type/Name: Jeannine Marie Photography
What makes you smile? I never really stop smiling.
What other hobbies do you enjoy? Can we consider eating, sleeping and cuddling with my family as a hobby?! I am self employed...I work all the time! However, I work all the time because I am obsessed with my career.
What romantic film do you like best? More like film(s)...The Princess Bride has always my favorite, The Little Mermaid and Never Been Kissed.
What is something people don’t know about you? I was once a paid fishing guide. Well kind of, I worked at Hiawatha Beach Resort on Leech Lake for seven years and each week I took the resort kids out fishing for a couple hours. My brother is 22 years younger than me. I met my husband online in 2004, he was living on Cape Cod. A few months later I moved out there.
What is your favorite dessert? I don't discriminate.
Why did you get into wedding biz? Cake, hugs, a day of gigantic laughs and a big party.... psssh I'm in! I have always wanted to be a photographer. I was exploring different options as a student and found a craigslist ad for a wedding photographer I really liked so I reached out to assist him. That first wedding season had me hooked.
How long have you been a photographer? I have been photographing weddings since 2007.
How would you describe your style? My style is a combination of photojournalistic and editorial. There are times in the day that are exclusively photojournalistic for example the ceremony and reception times. During the portraits I photograph more creative, directive and editorial. I'll make jokes and have people interact which will create prompted candid moments.
What's your favorite wedding moment to photograph? Oh gosh, I have to pick one?! Well that's impossible. I love so many... the excitement of the bride finally in her dress, first looks with her dad, the joy and relief of a couple walking back down the aisle after the wedding.
What do you love most about shooting outdoor/rustic events? I grew up on a farm in Northern Minnesota. Spending weekends at weddings in barns and backyards makes living in the metro area so much more bearable!
Why are you in love with your job? I LOVE weddings for so many reasons! Getting to witness couples commitment to each other in front of all their friends and family is something that is truly priceless. It is a day filled with so many beautiful moments and emotions. I am around people all day and I get to flex my creative muscles. The adrenaline starts the morning of the wedding and doesn’t wind down well past the time I am home.
What is your favorite part of the wedding day? There are so many to choose from!! Unexpected moments are my favorite. But moments I can anticipate propel my excitement, for example: the deep breath a bride has once the dress is on, giddiness of a couple walking down the aisle and the hugs and tears that come from the first wedding party and family that make it back to the couple, oh and, the father-daughter dance leaves me misty eyed most nights.
Any tips for couples when deciding on a photographer? Meet your photographer and feel comfortable with them. They will be spending your wedding day with you and all your family and friends. If you aren't comfortable in front of the camera it will show in the photos.
What advice would you give couples? Enjoy YOUR day. Whatever your concerns may be on your wedding day pass, them off to friends or family or BETTER YET, hire a wedding planner. In the months or years it took to plan this day it is over in the matter of a few hours. Don’t waste it with worry.
